Fulton Trotter celebrates 66.6 years of practice

Fulton Trotter Architects had its beginnings in Brisbane in 1946 as Fulton Job Collin. On Friday, the practice celebrated 66.6 years of innovative and inspired people and architecture. The event drew 70 guests to the roof-top of Wesley House – Brisbane’s first 5 Star Green Star commercial building by Fulton Trotter and Architectus.

Formed in the tumultuous post-WWII era as a three man show, Charles Fulton, Aubrey Job and Jim Collin went on to design several of Queensland’s historic and iconic buildings. This tradition of successful architecture was carried on by subsequent Partners including, Graham Boys, Stephen Trotter, Jack Gilmour, Ian Fulton, Frank Moss, Roger Carthey and Jane Carthey.

For over sixty years, the practice has developed strong experience in the understanding of sub-tropical environments and adaptable, responsible architecture. Many of the practice’s projects have been recognised through awards, publications and honorary notations due to their unique designs.

Today the practice is led by the third generation of Directors; Andrew Armstrong, Greg Isaac, Mark Trotter, Paul Trotter and Robert Wesener. These Directors lead a team of over sixty talented designers across Brisbane, Sydney and the Northern Rivers.

Through a collaborative, convivial approach, Fulton Trotter Architects (FTA) produces architecture that not only responds to the users’ need and the local environment, but does so with substance, style and spirit. Their aim is to always achieve the parallel goals of satisfying their clients’ needs whilst producing excellent architecture.

“Lord Mayor Graham Quirk and I thank you for your 66.6 years of contribution to Australian architecture”, Cr Vicki Howard of Central Ward in the Brisbane City Council said.

The venue, Wesley House, owned by Wesley Mission Brisbane (WMB) reinforced FTA’s strong relationship with WMB which has spanned for more than 40 years. “Fulton Trotter has played a very big part in our mission, because of the work they have done, the buildings and environments they have created. There will be thousands of people in all kinds of situations who will benefit from all that you have done through our great relationship”, said Mr Batkin – Executive Director of WMB.

Having celebrated 66.6 years, Fulton Trotter Architects looks forward to continuing their experience in Australian architecture and the built environment.
