Annual Art Competition & Exhibition
Begun in 1998 the Charlie’s Truck Door Art Competition has become an institution and an eagerly anticipated event in our social calendar. This year we took the annual exhibition to a new level of serious and stylish sophistication – darling!
Upon arrival guests were not only greeted by a fantastic collection of exquisite artworks but also by a marvellous spread of 60’s style canapes and cocktails, flamboyantly prepared by our FTA organising committee.
We welcomed special guest judges Kasia Jarosz, Director of Jarosz Design Studio and Jane Grealy of Jane Grealy and Associates who took their roles very seriously, and brought an unprecedented level of professionalism and erudition to the event.
Whilst the judges deliberated over the selection of the winners of 2018, Fulton Trotter’s very own band entertained the audience with a captivating live performance of “Dream a Little Dream of Me”.
Greg Mulheran was announced as the winner of the 2018 Charlie Fulton Judge’s Choice Award for his incredibly delicate, exquisite pencil sketch, “Sticks and Stones”. A highly commended was awarded to Andrew Wallace for a remarkable before and after comparison of his restored dining room chairs, cleverly entitled, “Renaissance”. “Self Portrait” by Kate Tempest, “Shame of Dismissal” by Oliver Howes, “Code Red” by Mark Trotter and “A Small Collection (of Sketches)” by Wendy Hay also received special mentions from both judges.
Voting was so tight in this year’s People’s Choice nominations that a decision to present two awards was granted. By a mere single vote of difference, Nani Vinsalek secured first place for her entry “Fulton Trotter… in Tinseltown” an amusing collage of staff members Photo-shopped into the scenes of famous movies. And the People’s Choice Runner Up was also awarded to Greg Mulheran for “Sticks and Stones”.
From its humble beginnings the competition has flourished into a celebration of creativity, quirkiness and extreme talent, meeting its aim to create an environment outside of work activities which enables expression and encourages a sense of cultural development! Overall the night was totally groovy baby and we would like to extend an enormous thank you to all who took the time to participate.
