Charlie's Truck Door Art Exhibition 2010

The evening of Friday 26th November saw the Twelfth Annual Charlie’s Truck Door Art Competition launch with a bang, with over forty entries from Futon Trotter and a number of consultants exhibited.

The 2010 competition marked the introduction of an optional theme to the event’s format, debuting with an “Art Deco” undertone in celebration of Fulton Trotter Architects’ 65 years of practice in 2011. Images of works, dating from as early as the late 1930s, prior to the firm’s formation in 1946, were displayed on the evening in commemoration of this milestone. The Art Deco theme was embraced enthusiastically by attendees, with a huge effort made to emulate the era through artwork, fashion and some noteworthy hair-styling.

Ian and Jude Airey, of Wesley Mission Brisbane’s Art from the Margins, served as our judges for the evening and, in keeping with the status quo, were not notified of their adjudicating role until their actual arrival at the event. The works were judged in multiple categories on the evening, with Judge’s Choice, Art Deco and the People’s Choice.

The winners in each category were as follows:

Judges Choice 1st prize Vinata Ciputra (Fulton Trotter Architects, Sydney)
2nd prize Daniel Mulheran (Greg Mulheran’s Son – Fulton Trotter Architects, Tweed)
3rd prize Shannon McGinty (Sue Lyons’ Daughter – Fulton Trotter Architects, Brisbane)
Art Deco Andrew Campbell (Fulton Trotter Architects, Brisbane)
Peoples Choice 1st prize Paul Sekava (Fulton Trotter Architects, Brisbane)
2nd prize Vinata Ciputra (Fulton Trotter Architects, Sydney)
3rd prize Rosabella Borsellino (Fulton Trotter Architects, Brisbane)

Fulton Trotter Architects congratulate all the winners of the evening, and everyone who contributed their talent and time in submitting an entry. To the relief of many participants, the lofty standards of artwork submitted for the 2009 event were returned to a more modest level of quality in this year’s competition.

The rooftop space of Wesley House served as a beautiful, ambient setting for the event, with impressive city views and favourable weather conditions. All-in-all the Art Competition provided the perfect culmination to a long week for all those who attended and successfully introduced the sentiment for next year’s commemorative significance for the firm.
