Congratulations to Mark Trotter for winning a 2013 Churchill Fellowship!
The Winston Churchill Memorial Trust was formed with the principal objective of honouring Sir Winston’s memory by the awarding of Memorial Fellowships to be known as ‘Churchill Fellowships’.
The aim of the Trust is to provide an opportunity for Australians to travel overseas to conduct research in their chosen field that is not readily available in Australia.
The Churchill Fellows currently includes over 3,700 of Australia’s greatest and brightest! Around 100 Churchill Fellowships are awarded each year with each person choosing their own projects which are diverse and innovative and the result of extra endeavour showing strive for excellence.
Most fellowships and scholarships available in Australia are awarded according to varying levels of predetermined criteria. The Churchill Trust can support any worthwhile endeavour with no preconceptions as to what form that endeavour can take.
Mark aims to develop new architectural initiatives to enhance education facilities for disadvantaged and disengaged youth by visiting facilities in Canada, United States of America, Ireland, Britain, Finland and Singapore.
“I propose to visit 16 exemplar schools in 6 OECD countries to see their facilities, meet with their designers and educators, understand their contexts and critique their success. Each of these schools cater for different groups of disadvantaged or disengaged youth and represents alternative methods of re-engagement and empowerment. From this experience, I hope to develop new ideas for schools that address similar youth issues in the Australian context.”
We wish Mark well on his future travels and look forward to learning from the knowledge gained from such an amazing experience.
