Turning point for Tweed Super Clinic
The long awaited Tweed Heads GP Super Clinic is one step closer to residents after the official sod turning ceremony was held today.
Federal member for Richmond Justine Elliot attended the event and the said the clinic has received strong community support.
“Locals asked for better health services before the last election and I’m pleased this service is closer to reality with today’s sod turning. The GP Super Clinic will deliver better access for health services in a single, convenient location,” Ms Elliot said.
“The clinic will include general practice, nurses, and allied health specialists. It will focus on training and education for medical, nursing and allied health students and will be a major site for GP registrar training.
Fulton Trotter Architects were appointed as architects for the new $5 million Super Clinic and assisted with the funding application back in 2010 when it was first announced by the Federal Government.
Design has begun and we are currently working closely with the Department of Health and Aged Care on the project. The clinic is to be operated by three local doctors and includes GP facilities, allied health, facilities for training doctors, pathology, radiology, dentist, pharmacy and a cafe.
Construction is expected to begin mid 2012 and completion by mid 2013. We are excited to be apart of this huge mile stone for the Tweed region in being successful in obtaining the funding necessary for this exciting addition to the region of Tweed.
