St James College Spring Hill - Joseph Canali Science and Library Building Unveiled
Friday was a special day for the students, parents, teachers, friends and staff of St James College, Spring Hill with the opening of three major facilities for this tiny campus
Fulton Trotter Architects have worked closely with College Principal, Gerry Crooks over the past six years and overcome significant obstacles to deliver these amazing new facilities.
Working with the college’s representative Carol Dowd, three simultaneous projects were completed, with the support of state and federal funding. The very tired classrooms within the Tom Carey building were significantly refurbished and dilapidated workshops completely gutted, extended and upgraded into a brand new Trade Skills Centre serving the college’s VET programme.
The new science and library building was purpose designed to meet the needs of modern learning. In response to its location on the fringe of the Valley commercial zone, it has deliberately taken a fresh, professional and commercial tone to its design, layout and detail, in contrast to the rest of the campus.
The opening ceremony was a very moving event, full of the history and symbology of one of Brisbane oldest catholic schools. The Archbishop of Brisbane blessed the new facilities with the support of local Aboriginal Elders.
During his address, Gerry Crooks took the time to thank everybody involved including Paul Trotter and Ryan Loveday of Fulton Trotter Architects along with numerous other participants in the process including the builders, James Trowse Constructions.
The Blessing was followed by an official opening by The Hon. Teresa Gambaro MP and The Hon. Grace Grace MP who both pulled the strings to unveil the traditional plaques that are provided for these special occasions.
