St Mary's College welcomes two awards at the Annual Ipswich City Council Awards for Excellence
On Tuesday night Fulton Trotter Architects, together with St. Mary’s College, Ipswich and Ivan McDonald Architects were two-time winners at the 22nd Annual Ipswich City Council Awards for Excellence. These awards publicly recognise, promote and reward excellence in design and construction of new development, conservation of heritage places and the protection of our environment throughout the City of Ipswich. Fulton Trotter’s painstaking refurbishment of the St. Mary’s 129 year-old former Convent building, in collaboration with Ivan McDonald, Heritage Architect, was a nominee in the Heritage category.
The ceremony, opened by Cr Paul Pisasale, Mayor of the City of Ipswich , was held at Ipswich Civic Centre with guest presenter Rob Molhoek MP, the Assistant Minister for Planning Reform and the Member for Southport. Throughout the evening, numerous awards were presented in Design, Heritage, Environment and Student categories. Fulton Trotter, Ivan and St. Mary’s won a Gold Medal in the Ron Brown Memorial Heritage Conservation Awards (for works which present excellence in the conservation, restoration, reconstruction and adaption of heritage places to retain their cultural significance).
St Mary’s College also then went on to be declared the Overall Winners of the Heritage Category.
Fulton Trotter would like to thank all of those involved for their efforts above and beyond the call of duty on this unique and demanding project. The outstanding result, loved by all, stands to grace the school as the jewel of the campus for at least another 129 years.
