St James Primary School, Banora Point
Banora Point New South Wales
St James Primary School at Banora Point is a modern planned school that under the BER P21 funding allowed for the relocation of the existing library, reconfiguration and extension of the existing teaching spaces and creation of covered outdoor areas as an extension to the classrooms and library.
The large covered area in front of the new library provides an identifiable central hub for the school, an old school clock tower in a sense. New and expanded teaching areas have their own covered outdoor areas leading to individual courtyards for outdoor learning and practical activities such as art and permaculture.
Ecologically Sustainable Design principles have been adopted including roof ventilators, natural light, shaded wide verandas, water tanks and low VOC materials.
