St Joseph's Primary School, Tweed Heads
Tweed Heads New South Wales
St Joseph’s Primary in Tweed Heads is a school of 350 students and is located on an inner urban site in Tweed Heads. Established in 1917 the school has three street frontages and has a number of existing buildings of varying age and condition. With the assistance of the BER P21 funding, most of the school was redeveloped into a modern campus capable of 21st learning.
The project included removal and or demolition of some of the existing buildings, replacement of the existing playground area, new administration, teaching spaces, library and refurbishment of existing buildings. Each building is flexible in design and incorporates passive cooling, low VOC materials and utilises recycled timber for signage and other key elements. The materials and colours are taken from those buildings that remained as well as the adjacent Parish Church and Community Centre.
