Albert Park Flexible Learning Centre

Milton Queensland

The Albert Park Flexible Learning Centre project is an alterations and additions to an existing school in the inner city Brisbane suburb of Milton. The site houses various school buildings which date from the 1880’s to more recent additions built in the 1960’s and 70’s. This project involved the refurbishment and reconfiguration of some of the later buildings to more appropriately suit their most recent incarnation as a Flexible Learning Centre.

Three of these asbestos-ridden buildings were essentially stripped and re-clad internally and externally to provide a new Art Room, Kitchen and amenities and new Multi-Media, and Dance and Drama spaces. A large timber deck and seating platform was inserted between the Music and Drama Building and the Art Shed to create an inviting and homely outdoor learning area nestled into the creative hub of the school.

Much thought and energy was devoted to the Multi-media recording facilities, reflecting the school’s commitment to the arts and the belief in the positive impact of providing an environment in which the young people can express themselves creatively.
