Granite Belt Support Services is a community based organisation working to improve the quality of life of people with disabilities and their families. The organisation provides Therapy Services to children aged 0-18 in an educational setting and Supported Accommodation, Respite, Community Access, Post Schools and Life Skills Programs to people with a disability and their families in the Granite Belt.
The Service is currently based in a retrofit house in Short Street, Stanthorpe, and their growth since this relatively recent move has opened up the possibility of offering in-house programs. Fast out-growing their current base, the Service is now embarking on a journey to construct a purpose built facility that will serve their customers into the future.
The design responds the environment of Stanthorpe which includes quite cold periods as well as a number of principles driven by the client and the services provided including:
- Coffee, Chocolates and Tissues – Maintaining a sense of welcoming, homeliness and community
- Utilising the administration block as a buffer to the more private service spaces at the rear
- Providing a fully accessible site
- Utilising natural materials and rustic finishes to create comfort
