Deception Bay Flexible Learning Centre

The Deception Bay Flexible Learning Centre provides education facilities that cater to disadvantaged students in Grades 8 to 12. The design aims to create a series of functional teaching spaces that meet the educational requirements, while avoiding creating the institutionalised feel of a traditional school environment.

The buildings are arranged around the perimeter of the site to form a central courtyard and make the most of the limited site space and their forms are broken-up into a series of smaller elements to reduce the scale of the buildings and increase their level of interaction with the surrounding landscape. Materials are chosen for their durability and hard-wearing characteristics, while vibrant colours are used to lend each building an individual character and create a fresh, creative learning environment.
