Expo Park Central
Expo Park Central is a mixed use development comprising bulky goods retail and commercial office space. The project has been designed as two distinct pieces separated by an internal street. The commercial building strikes a formidable image to the street with angled columns and the ground floor set back, creating the feeling that the upper floor is floating above the street.
Situated within the established commerce and trade area of Tweed Heads South, the site has an irregular shape, with a convex eastern frontage: this influenced the shape of the commercial building frontage. The result is a uniquely shaped, elevated building which is highly visible from the north and south approach of Greenway Drive. The subsequent curves form a driveway and promenade that fronts the bulky goods retail building. The amalgamation of the two lots comprising the site meant that the unused storage area at the back of the existing building could be utilised and incorporated into the new bulky goods tenancies.
The external façade of the commercial building is predominantly glazed with vertical aluminium sunshading fins at streetfront, and perforated screening panels on the western wall. The back wall at ground level is a combination of compressed fibre cement, aluminium cladding and blockwork, while tilt-up concrete panels are used for the bulky goods building.
