Faith Lutheran College Year 7 Learning Centre
Sited within the rural landscape with views casting across grassy fields to pockets of natural bushland, the Faith Lutheran College Year 7 Learning Centre adds the final building to the newly established middle school. Located between two existing buildings, this new structure aims to compliment the established site-wide design language, yet create a distinct destination and environment specific to younger students’ needs. This contextual integration together with a specific planning response to address teaching requirements has led to a design which achieves a high degree of user satisfaction in both respects.
Internal planning facilitates a variety of teaching and learning methods from team teaching to large group instruction and small withdrawal groups. The system of operable walls allows for each room to operate independently or in multiple of configurations. Generous external covered spaces extend learning areas to the outside and provide respite and informal social gathering opportunities for the learning centre.
The external material palette of corrugated steel, with accents of vibrant colour integrates the building with its neighbour and the broader campus and compliments the rural setting. The new block emphasises the unique specialist qualities of Grade 7 studies, whilst offering a valuable addition to the greater school community.
