John XXIII Primary School
This project is the first stage of a 4 stream primary school set in the new booming suburbs of Western Sydney. It is comprised of administration, a library, and 6 classrooms along with supporting carparks and entry structures. It was built in 2005. Planning for the school was undertaken at the same time as the parish church at the top of the hill.
The philosophy of the site planning was to provide a campus which had a feel of a small village to house 840 students. The commercial buildings, Admin and Library are built in commercial formats and scales while classrooms are expressed in more domestic scales. The idea was to integrate the campus with the surrounding suburbs in a non-institutional format. The public spaces are arranged around an axis running up the hill to the church, emphasizing the schools relationship to the church as a source of inspiration.
