Mater Maria College
Mater Maria Catholic College – Warriewood, a suburb on the northern beaches of Sydney on a steep slope in an environmentally sensitive area with wonderful views over the Warriewood Valley, and out to sea.
The buildings are designed around a theme of blocks of sandstone set in the landscape covered in leaves and moss. Meandering covered walkways are planned to link the buildings continuing the theme of organic shapes linking blocks of stone.
The scheme proposed addresses the access problems resulting from the steepness of the site by placing all new building development so that it is accessible from the middle level of the school. A grand stairway will link carparking and bus dropoff facilities at the bottom of the site with the middle and upper levels providing a strong axis focussed on the new chapel, and will orient visitors and lead them to the key public areas of the school.
