Our Lady of Mercy College - Master Plan
The project involves the Redevelopment of Our Lady of Mercy College Burraneer, Years 7-10 Catholic Girls school located in Burraneer Bay, near Cronulla. The School was established in 1930 in Cronulla and relocated to its current position in 1960. The master plan sought to upgrade the facilities or provide new facilities to accommodate a larger student population as well as allow for the changing needs of education and learning in the 21st Century.
The new building gives a strong sense of identity, purpose and playfulness while addressing the numerous constraints such as slope, access across the site and limited buildable area. A unique approach was taken to the design of each learning space with a single room being allocated to an individual designer. All of the spaces were then connected both physically and visually to a central, open and flexible learning area located across two levels, providing opportunities for numerous teaching and learning modes.
