Winton Library
Winton Queensland
The library in Winton was commissioned by the Winton Shire Council to replace the
inadequate facility that was housed within the existing shire chambers. The modest
structure will be sited on the town’s main street as a ‘stand alone’ facility.
Despite the simple nature of the project a number of difficult issues had to be resolved to create a cost effective solution for the community. Difficult soil issues, prohibitive freight costs, isolation and arid climatic conditions make for a challenging design brief.
The external facade is designed in keeping with the traditional streetscape of Winton
and the interior uses natural light and a decorative patterned ceiling “ reminiscent of the Channel Country” to create a modern and relaxed library environment
