St Brigid's Catholic Primary School, Gwynneville
Fulton Trotter Architects were engaged to design new Hall and Classroom facilities for this existing single stream primary school as part of the Federal Government’s Building the Education Revolution scheme in order to replace an old existing hall facility.
The challenge for the project was to locate the new Hall within the existing small campus without limiting the amount of public space available. In response to this brief the new Hall has been located in the centre of the school, but has been designed as a light, open building that can be opened during play times to connect into the existing open spaces – much like a Covered Outdoor Learning Area. In order to facilitate this the facades of the Hall feature large, openable glass doors.
The location of the Hall as well as its modern, clean design of the hall sets it as a bold new centrepiece to the existing school campus. The existing hall facility was demolished to create a greater sense of entry and greater street presence for the school.
The development also involved creating new GLA spaces and Meeting spaces for the use of the School and the Parish.
