Stella Maris Star of the Sea Theatre
Stage 2 of the Master Plan is comprised of a performing arts theatre, dance and drama studios, fitness centre general classrooms and two level music practice building.
The site planning was based on the Benedictine Philosophy which is central to the College’s teaching philosophy, with building that surround a modern day version of courtyard space (basketball court).
The Nun’s Garden has been reinterpreted in a similar location on site with the use of a grassed area bounded by a hedge.
The new building work relates to the surrounding suburb with the use of brickwork detailing and the strong axis created along Collingwood Street with the centre line of the theatre.
A strong relationship to the existing school exists through the patterned façade that is a reminder of the tiled roof of the Convent and solid walls that bound the new stage again a reminder of the solid walls that bound the Convent part of the site.
The façade treatment and window patterns make a reference to Gregorian Music Scores.
